Paradoxically, the history of Gunslingers could be likened to a small manual of "how to never succeed never as football team." Early in 1984, the team of San Antonio appears largely underfunded and its owner, Clinton MANGES, who made his fortune in oil, experienced many difficulties to be transferred its assets in cash to pay its players and invoices . Result? A non-motivated team, a coach Jim Bates, who, in 1985, abdicts after 10 games and a thinly veiled revolt players.
On the ground, the mid-ranking team worth because after a disastrous start to the 1984 season (4 games), the team managed to clinch 7 wins out of 10 games following, before falling in through the "non-game" due to the structure of the team and not the players.
1985 will be a series of small miracles to see the franchise reach the end of the season. Non-payment of players, demotivation of them, coaches, franchise, in short, a disaster that made the franchise will disappear at the end of the season, ended with five wins to 13 losses.
In 1998, the Gunbslingers elders held a meeting, 13 years after quitting the team and it was surprising that more than 50 of them, made the journey yet to find.
